Nikah Di Siam
Nikah di Siam If you dream of your wedding in a foreign country, a beautiful place that might have come to your mind is Thailand. Nikah di Siam is not just a romantic way of getting married, it’s extremely convenient and affordable too. However, in Siam it is important to have a legally registered marriage, especially when it comes for foreigners. Even though Thailand is an extremely welcoming country, it will not ignore proof of your marital status or identity, whether you belong to them or not. Why Get You Nikah Registered? When you get married in Thailand for any reason, if even one of you is not a citizen of the country, registering the Nikah is compulsory.
According to the Family Law in Thailand, marriages are not recognized by religious ceremonies. Even though it holds importance, you will not be considered to be a married couple if you don’t register it. It is only after the religious ceremony is over, that you can get your Nikah registered. Since you are a foreign national, it is important that the wedding is approved and legalized by both countries – Siam as well as your home country. So, when you are marrying in Thailand as a foreigner, no matter what religion you belong to or what traditions you follow, you need some papers ready before your Nikah in order to obtain a marriage certificate after the traditional ceremony. Legal Formalities for Legalizing Nikah di Siam It doesn’t matter whether you’re a foreign couple or only one of you is a foreigner marrying in Thailand. In either case, obtaining a registration legalized by the Government of Thailand is mandatory. Here’s what you need to do step by step for legalizing your marriage:
Bring your passport that has a validity of at least 6 months to the embassy (if you’re not a resident) or consulate (if you’re a resident). If you were married before, bring the original copy of your divorce or late partner’s death certificate – whichever is applicable in your case. From the embassy or consulate, you’ll receive an affirmation that proves you have the Freedom of Marriage according to the laws of your country.
You need to get these papers translated in Thai and submit them to the ministry of foreign affairs. You’ll get these papers back legalized by the Government of Thailand. Carry these papers along with your visa and passport with you in Siam and get married according to your traditions. Make sure you take a video of the Nikah ceremony. After you’ve been declared married by the Imam, carry the documents to the Amphur. You’ll need a prior appointment there as they only marry 8 couples in a day. Submit your documents and obtain the certificate of marriage, which will be in Thai. Give the certificate to the embassy or consulate to get it translated in your language. Submit it to the ministry of foreign affairs to get it legalized in both countries. Now, your Nikah di Siam is legal and official. Are you picturing it already?
